Rev. Robert Franklin: Senior Pastor
What do you do at Main Street?
I am allowed to share how the Bible is applicable to life today on a weekly basis. I also get the privilege of teaching classes on varied topics throughout the week. I serve as the lead Elder and help to set the spiritual pace and direction of those who attend Main Street and are part of what God is doing here.

Tell me about your family?
Nineteen years ago I married my high school sweetheart, Michelle. God has blessed us with three children: Ryan (University of Kentucky), Alyssa (Campbell County High School) and Emily (Campbell County High School)—their Dad and Mom are very proud of them. Michelle is involved with our worship team, Ryan is active in serving Christ on the campus and my girls are heavily involved in the great youth program led by Pastor Wayne. My parents, Gary and Roberta currently serve as chaplains to the oil and gas workers in remote parts of Wyoming. I would brag, but since this isn’t my personal “blog” I will just say God has been very good to me.

What is your background?
I have lived all over (Oregon, Washington, California, Iowa, Illinois, Virginia, and Kentucky) but I spent my school years in Gresham, Oregon. God saw fit to allow me to work in several different industries (everything from cleaning bathrooms to managing a million+ dollar business) before joining the pastorate. I currently hold degrees in English Literature and Christian Education. Main Street is the second church I have been honored to serve.

What do you love best about Main Street?
I love the people best. I have never been in a place where the excitement about following Christ quite matches what I have found at Main Street. The people here love to laugh, they work hard, they try new things; they are quick to forgive and slow to harbor hurts. Main Street has people from different social, economic, racial and education backgrounds, but everyone is just family when they come through the doors. It is a great place to be.

What do you like to do in your free time?
I like to spend time with my family. I enjoy reading, mowing my grass or working in my garden, playing just about any kind of sport, writing fiction and non-fiction.

What are some of your favorites?
Music
I enjoy and listen to just about everything but Country/Western (but I do watch CMT from time to time just to keep up). I collect Dvorak, Mahler, Bruckner, Steve Taylor and Big Band albums.

Movies
Amazing Grace, The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, Sense and Sensibility, Emma, Henry V, Alfred Hitchcock’s Hollywood productions.

Books
I have eclectic reading tastes. English novels are a favorite of mine, but I read histories and modern business tomes as well. My absolute favorite author is Stephen R. Lawhead.

Food
I love Italian food and dessert and now have a great appreciation for Ugandan fare.
